Gardens are the re-creation of symbol of nature and stage of culture. The “Hanging Gardens of Babylon” were built by Nebuchadnezzar II (605 - 562 B.C.) around 600 B.C. He is reported to have constructed the beautiful gardens to please his wife who suffered from homesickness. What kinds of trees and plants were grown in the gardens and how the gardens were created? We have known that culture is placed in the opposite of nature. According to this, nature is not artificially made but has autonomous life and culture that was made by human beings. Nature lies within our recognition from the beginning so that nature is perceived as culture and cultural thing. The ceramic works are produced from the inspiration of the “Hanging Gardens of Babylon”, representing spaces with multi-layered structure constructed by crossing lines, as well as modern cities and architectures composed of lines and facets. This stage of nature is the reconstruction of creating fantastic spaces, which have geometric structures and lyric sensibility.

정원은 자연 표상의 재현이며 문화의 무대이다. 네부카드네자르 2세는 기원전 약 600년경에 향수병에 걸린 왕비를 위하여 뜨거운 모래사막의 평지 바빌론에 기적같이 아름다운 정원을 건설했다고 한다. 그곳에는 무엇이 자라고 있을까, 어떻게 만들어져 있을까? 우리는 문화가 자연과는 정반대 되는 것이라고 알고 있다. 이에 따르면 자연은 만들어지지 않는 것 그리고 자율적 생명을 가진 것이며 반대로 문화는 사람에 의해 만들어진 것이다. 하지만 자연이란 우리가 먼저 자연이라고 생각해내고 알 수 있어야 한다. 그렇기 때문에 자연에 대한 관념은 이미 문화이고 문화적으로 각인되어 있다. 비록 우리자신이 자연에 일부일지라도 우리가 무언가를 자각하는 순간부터 문화는 시작된다. 작품은 선을 교차시켜 중층적인 구조의 깊이를 가진 공간, 그와 동시에 선과 면으로 이루어진 현대 도시와 건축물을 표현하는 자연의 무대 바빌론의 공중정원에서 영향을 받아 재작하였다. 이 자연의 무대는 기하학적인 구조를 지니면서 서정적인 감각을 지닌 환상적인 공간의 창조를 재구성하고자 하였다.
